A graduate of Howard University and some post-grad work at UCLA in writing and public relations, Carla Renata has become a force to be reckoned with inside the world of film criticism – particularly for female critics of color community. Having her work featured on Ebony.com, NPR.org, AAFCA.com, Black Tomatoes on Black Hollywood Live and her own site TheCurvyFilmCritic.com earned her the opportunity to be featured in the Los Angeles Times alongside 13 other critics of color in a diversity piece penned by staff writer Trevell Anderson.
In addition to hitting the carpets and garnering celeb interviews at Sundance, TIFF, LA Film Festival and the Oscars, Carla will be seen this fall in the AAFCA Sponsored ‘Spotlight Series’ on Turner Classic Movies where the Black Cinema will be focus for the entire month of September facilitated by AAFCA Founders Gil Robertson and Shawn Edwards.
She has been a panelist for Emerson College, (NALIP) National Association of Latino International Producers and many more. Her reviews can be seen weekly on Black Tomatoes with Co-Host Scott Menzel of We Live Entertainment at Black Hollywood Live and on her site TheCurvyFilmCritic.com.
